John MagalhaesMr. Magalhaes is a native of Linden, NJ and graduated from The American Musical and Dramatic Academy and The New School with a B.F.A in Theatre and a certification in Creative Arts Therapy. After graduating from AMDA, Mr. Magalhaes landed work as an actor right away. He has performed on tours and has worked all over the state of New York. His most notable work was playing Tobias in Sweeney Todd at the Gerald W. Lynch Theatre along side Broadway vet Meghan Duffy.
Although he is somewhat new to Milby High, he has been teaching for some time. He started as a teaching Artist at John Jay College in NY, where he worked with Broadway veterans teaching acting and performance to Criminal Justices students. He fell in love with teaching so much that he went back to school. There, he did his student teaching in the Bronx Correctional School. Once he graduated, he moved to Houston, TX. In Houston, he started to work at the Queensbury Theatre as an actor, Teaching Artist, and Set Builder. He has helped build all sets at Queensbury and teaches in their after school program working with children ages 6 and up. Since working at Milby, Mr. Magalhaes has started to build a well round theatre program. He offers multiple classes in Acting, Musical Theatre, Stagecraft and Technical Theatre. In 2016, he was a finalist for Rookie Teacher of the Year. In 2018, Mr. Magalhaes put on Milby's first Musical in over 50 years and participated in the Tommy Tune Awards. He would like to thank Milby High School for all of its support as he build something wonderful. |
